Maybe this last part of the original Rambo trilogy is a bit underrated. The movie works perfectly if you watch it as an action fantasy with comical qualities. Comparing it with the more serious first blood movie must lead to disappointment here. These are two very different movies! R3 is in so many ways over the top: highly illogical, larger than life heroism, comical facial expressions, muscle play and dialogue. But technically it is very well done. The cinematography works! And if you watch it as you would a comic adaption or a superhero movie, then all of a sudden everything “makes sense”, or at least is very entertaining. Last but not least: the musical score was masterfully composed by Jerry Goldsmith. It carries the whole movie perfectly.
