These are not the times of churning pixelated low bitrate crap just for the sake of small size.
We all have bigger screen LCD LED TVs and watching videos on em should be a pleasure not just a formality.
Hence more strenuous re encoding with extra bitarate is being done now.
As an encoder I should be okay if not happy with the encodes.
Eurovision : Obviously you are far too much into hammered rips and seems to be not aware of the type of content , the Eurovision has the video which resembles as live footage throughout and such videos always come blocky if you use low bitrate hance I gave x265 encoder freedom to give it required bitrate within some predefined parameters..
The reason for Eurovision was explained in notes , and I didnt need to reply here again …
If you are fond of utterly hammered so called micro rips where 720p of 1:34 duration is posted in 650MB then I guess you may have to download from somewhere else coz I wont be doing that anymore… as far as x264 goes
But If all the guys here are ready to have all rips in x265 then I guess we can have pretty decent size 🙂
The skipping thing … is it in this rip alone or was there in other recent ones as well ???
Skipping thing is on this video and 1st time I notice it on Eurovision Song Contest 720p version. Watching movie is OK, but when fast skipping (BsPlayer) often picture is blurry and pixelated. Didn’t notice that before. I just tried Roman J. Israel, Esq (2017) (21.06) and it is OK.., Wasp Network (2019) WEB scOrp (26.26) is not OK and all later movies I downloaded are not OK. It is ffdshow video decoder problem, tried with LAV and DXVA and it is OK. My bad, still using old ffdshow video decoder. But it is good to know for compatibility reasons. For the bit rate in my opinion 1000-1200 Kbps for 720p depending on the movie is OK. For better quality I think people are downloding 1080p.
I can see some diference in coding for new videos OLD open_gop=0 qpmin=10 qpmax=51 NEW open_gop=1 qpmin=0 qpmax=69. “x264 default is closed gop (open_gop=0)” “ABR Videos Should Use Closed GOPS”
